If you carrot all.

Image
Ooty is a popular tourist spot of Nilgiris. Despite being a part of South India, Ooty offers a sub-tropical climate which makes it perfect for cultivation of carrots, tea and cabbage. If you have ever been to Ooty, you would have seen innumerous vendors selling packets of fresh carrots at a mere cost of INR 20-40. Carrots. Are you cringing at the sight of this word? So am I. Carrots are nutrient rich and low in calories. They are packed with Vitamins (especially Vitamin A which is good for our eyes). However, you already know this. There’s even a day for carrots (April 4 th every damn year).  “What you see depends on how you view the world. To most people this is just dirt. To a farmer it’s potential.”Here, a group of laborers manually pluck carrots from the soil. These laborers are paid on a day-to-day basis.  These carrots are roughly packed in jute bags and transplanted into a factory area where the carrots are washed. The carrots are thrown over the...

Cafe Time

Image
Cafes are the best place one could probably imagine when we wish to have a good dinner with our loved ones. Here is where we slowly start drowning in the magic of soothing light music and even the mere thought of being surrounded by magnificent smell of flowers along with two glasses of wine is just impeccable.  Fortunately, all the above stated views are imaginary in my life since I got to have a great brunch with my friends at this famous cafe joint called 'That Madras Place', Kasthuri Bai Nagar, Adyar, Chennai. The prices touch the heights of sky but it got compensated by the incredible taste of food. The cafe is best known for its pastas and burgers.  Out of all our orders, jalapenos mac 'n cheese pasta topped the list. Any cheese lover will wipe up the plate in no time since the macaroni was full of thick creamy sauce along with jalapenos and some veggies. The dish was served along with a toasted wheat bread. Jalapenos Mac n Cheese   Chick...

"Dare not to reject my proposal"-Messy Milkshakes. The best place to enjoy great shakes is undoubted 'The Thick Shake Factory'. One of its branches is located in OMR Food Street, Navallur, Chennai. This place is the perfect spot to relax your tastebuds. The ThickShake Factory The name says it all. A wide range of delicious creamy milkshakes(starting from INR 139) and thick shakes(starting from INR 159).If you just happen to be a chocolate lover, then Belgian chocolate milkshake and triple choco chip shake are your forte. The taste is simply marvelous and it’s something that you will carry forever. Surprisingly the shakes are not too loaded with sugar(thank heavens for no sugar rush) instead infused with flavor that simply kicks you in your face. You can also make your own shake at INR 159. Try to not buy crushers since this place is best known for its thick shakes. When my friends and I ended up there, we got to have some really fantastic shakes with enthral...

You had me at to-go

Image
If only we could this Kitchen across a scale less than zero!! Almost five months, we had been to Wangs Kitchen, Vandalur to celebrate our dearest friend’s birthday and needless to say, it was quite a memory with decent food. Being right next to the Vandalur Zoo, this restaurant can simply mint away. However, it fails miserably with terrible service and very poor staff knowledge. Our attendant had to call his manager to confirm an ongoing offer!! He didn’t even know what was available. Coming to food which took forever to arrive at our table, it was terrible and everything was either bland or gelatos. Any special occasion calls for a treat and our friend ended up calling Wangs for around 1900 INR (which was not honestly worth it). This. Steamed chicken momo and crispy chilli sesame baby corn. Steamed chicken momo (INR 249) - Pretty decent although I have had better at a cheaper price. The schezwan sauce was good but the chili sauce was just fine. Crispy chili sesam...

Of All Taste, Salt

Salt is supposedly one of best restaurants of Forum Vijaya Mall, Vadapalani. A big bold font put up with the alphabet S in blood red that is so inviting to dine in with both outdoor and indoor seating options. It has great ambience where one can have a great time with friends and family. Order: Chicken Tak-A-Tak(INR 350): Imagine marinated chicken breasts strips fried to crisp that is then sautéed with spicy sauce with pepper and onion. Well, your imagination has a name: Chicken Tak-A-Tak which is classic street food. Dakshin Prawn Fryums(a great complementary) Chef’s special of the day: Anglo Indian Fish Cutlet – which honestly, has more fish in its name rather in the cutlet. Anglo Indian Fish Cutlet Tender Coconut Mango -   A combo of tender coconut and Mango is always refreshing. Virgin Mojito – regular everyday Virgin Mojito. Virgin Mojito Mutton Sukka(INR 350) : Mutton cooked dry in a spicy sukha masala. Mutton Sukka Dakshin ...

Patty to heart...

Image
They say A silent hug means a thousand words to unhappy heart. This HUG day(12 February according to the Internet), the only hug I ended up with is from American BBQ Spl. burger that we had at Scarlet's Cafe de Burger(located at the bustling OMR food street, Navalur). A couple of my friends and I found ourselves in front of this rustic restaurant that is filled with beautiful cartoons and Western cowboy theme. We had ordered three chicken patty burgers - Spicy Affair (@INR 139), Desi Chicken Tandoori (@ INR 146) and American BBQ Spl. (@INR 149), shepherd choice lamb burger(@INR 200) and cheesy chicken fries(@INR 120). Desi Chicken Tandori Spicy Affair was quite truly a spicy affair between grilled minced chicken patty with red bell pepper and red chili sauce. Desi Chicken burger, on the other hand, had grilled minced chicken patty with special tikka seasoning with its roots tracing back to Indian flavor. Texas Burger(a personal favorite) was a beautiful harmony of the...
