Kernel of truth
We have the second largest beach in the world, and we are very proud of it. Very proud of it.
“Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away.”
And there’s nothing more delicious than the street food you will find on Marina Beach.
You will find egg-dosa(sunny side styled egg spread over a dosa), ginger tea, coffee, cotton candy, bread-omelet(slathered with mint chutney),fried fillets of vanjaram(seer fish), crispy nethili(anchovy), sundal(boiled chick peas/kidney beans stirred with coconut shavings and chilies), grilled corn-on-cob and diced unripe mango dusted with chili powder. Let’s not forget the various types of bajiis available- hot vazhakkai (unripe banana) bajiis, molaga (green pepper), onion bajis and potato bajis.
It’s a serious felony if you haven’t at least grabbed a bite of hot grilled corn on your visit to Marina Beach.
This vendor was operating a simple stand selling roasted corn on the cob and unripe diced mango. Her makeshift clay grill was kept hot by burning charcoal that is constantly pumped by a small hand blower.
The vendor had pre-boiled corn and once we had paid, she took the whole corn and fired up the coal fueled stove and charred the corn over the flame. Furthermore, she rubbed a spice rub and squeezed a lime wedge over the grilled corn before handing it over to us. It is simple yet elegant. It is one of those things that truly define a great experience at Chennai Marina Beach.
Dear roommate, I know it’s corny but...
you are a-maize-ing just like the corn I enjoyed without you!!
