Our love for samosa goes onion on.

On a rainy day, nothing can beat the evergreen pairing of a cup of ginger tea and a steaming plate of snacks – be it vada, bajiis or samosa.
Samosa is probably one of most popular snack in India. It is a deep fried pastry with a savory filling usually served with chutney and enjoyed as an evening snack.
There are various versions of samosas available across the country  – Punjabi samosa (filled with potatoes and peas), singara/Bengali samosa (stuffing comprising of potatoes, peas, cauliflower, peanuts and chili), keema samosas, Chinese samosa (filled with cabbage, carrots and potatoes) and our personal favorite, onion samosa.

Samosa is just a word but onion samosa is an emotion. (My roommate’s words)

If you head over to any tea kadai (tea shop) or some of the popular sweetshops in Tamil Nadu, you will find sizzling bajis, samosas and vadas with the popular samosa in Tamil Nadu being samasa. Samasa is quite different from its North Indian version as they mostly stuffed with caramelized onion fillings and usually eaten without any chutney.
We usually enjoy these crispy rolls of love in the vicinity of sub-urban trains where the vendors sell 3-4 mini samasas for just INR 10. After all, “You don’t need a silver fork to eat good food.”

Dear roomie, you’re the chutney to my samosa. Do you realize how cheesy that sounds? Well, not cheesier than the nachos we indulged at Mexicana Food.
